Equestrian Roots
I grew up on a farm where my whole family was involved with the horses one way or another. My Dad rodeo'd and rode ruff stock (bareback horses and bulls) until I was born and now he team ropes. My Mom is a volunteer 4-H leader and teaches beginner to intermediate riders and gets them started in the show pen. My Brother rode for fun but was more into fixing (first he broke them lol) all the mechanical things on the farm ranging from 4 wheelers and farm equipment to trucks and cares. Anyway I guess you can say I've done a little bit of a lot when it comes to horses. Everything from Roping with my Dad to showing Hunter Jumpers. I made a career out of training all around horses on the AQHA circuit though for a portion of my life. I met Matt, got pretty settled and was looking to not be traveling constantly to horse shows and started slowing down. My true "retirement" came when we found out we were having our son though. We had complications and the Doc said NO Riding! I say retirement with a laugh because I can't seem to keep my nose out of it even though I no longer have a barn of my own to run. hehehe We have owned and shown a few horses of our own and I have some close friends and long time customers that are more like family that I continue to help on the side. I don't think I could ever be out totally. The Horses are in my blood and my heart! Anyone that has worked with them long enough probably feels the same way.
learning to build a home
Once I settled down and Stopped traveling with the horse shows I began learning a new trade professionally that I had been learning a lot about by fixing my own home all along. My great friend Heather (who is still a constant inspiration to me) had a company of her own called WoodCastle Builders that built custome homes on the coast of NC. I started working with her on some renovations of Historic homes and quickly became her right hand. (some times her left hand too hehe) The "Nerd" in me loved the History and the "fixer" in me loved being hands on and problem solving. My love of DIY mixed in there with the creativity it takes to see the vision and I found my new passion.
Learning to build a family
Hi My name is Joy Bunn (soon to be Mosley) and I started this Blog to share my love of all things Home and maybe a little knowledge about Horses. I am by nature a home body although all those that have met me over the years as I traveled as a horse trainer probably would be shocked to hear me say that. lol I am obsessed with turning old into new and creating a welcoming atmosphere in a home without breaking the bank 😉 I love my crazy active family (that includes all our friends that are like family) I'm definitely a mom in training and trying to figure it out as I go but I'm happy to share the things that I've learned that make it easier as I go along. I mean we can use all the help we can get and I'm convinced that no one knows it all! Am I right or am I right ladies?
